Book Review: Cress by Marissa Meyer

I have been listening to so many audiobooks this year so far and I have been really enjoying The Lunar Chronicles! Can we give a shout out to our library system for using the Libby app and giving me free audiobooks! Wow. I am so glad I found out the library has audiobooks recently because it’s been so helpful since I have been so busy. But, let’s get right into my review of Cress by Marissa Meyer.

This is the third book in the series. So, I don’t want anyone to get spoiled! Check out my review of the first book, Cinder, or the second book, Scarlet, before you read this one!

Summary

Cinder and Captain Thorne are fugitives on the run, now with Scarlet and Wolf in tow. Together, they’re plotting to overthrow Queen Levana and her army.

Their best hope lies with Cress, a girl imprisoned on a satellite since childhood who’s only ever had her netscreens as company. All that screen time has made Cress an excellent hacker. Unfortunately, she’s just received orders from Levana to track down Cinder and her handsome accomplice.

When a daring rescue of Cress goes awry, the group is separated. Cress finally has her freedom, but it comes at a higher price. Meanwhile, Queen Levana will let nothing prevent her marriage to Emperor Kai. Cress, Scarlet, and Cinder may not have signed up to save the world, but they may be the only hope the world has.

My Review

I truly shocks me how well this author changes these fairy tales to get them to work in her universe. It’s honestly so refreshing to get a reimagining that isn’t just the same story but slightly different and I absolutely love it. This book continued to impress and I thing it did an amazing job continuing on with this interesting series.

Truly, though, I am a little upset that the next book is the last and I am unsure how I am going to carry on. Like, what am I going to do? Who knows. But, I highly recommend this series for anyone who enjoys retellings, or even if you just like general sci-fi (ish?) type stories. They’re so well done that you’re sure to enjoy them.

Also, have you all checked out my YouTube channel yet? Well, I have been doing a read-through of Wicked Saints now that I have I finished Storm and Fury. Check out my first episode on Wicked Saints and make sure to subscribe!
