Podcast Review: Join the Party
This is the first time I’ve ever done a podcast review. With how much I’ve been driving around recently I haven’t been able to do a whole lot of reading. I also don’t have an audible subscription yet (I know, I know, I’m getting there!). So, I’ve been listening to a lot of podcasts recently. I really think this will interest a lot of you so I wanted to take a second to talk about it.
Currently, I am only 17 episodes into the campaign but all I have to say is wow! Join the Party in a Dungeons and Dragons podcast, but don’t feel like you can’t listen if you’ve never played. I have never played, even though now I really want to, and it’s super easy to follow. The first two episodes give you little tidbits which let you know about all the gameplay and what different things mean. After listening, you’ll be able to pick it up along the way without a problem.
I think the reason I like this so much is that while it’s a story, it’s a story with endless possibilities. Recently, I’ve been feeling like sometimes I read books and watch movies and it’s all incredibly predictable. But, with Dungeons and Dragons, it’s all up to the dice and the abilities of these characters to find ways through it. Creatively, it’s been inspiring because I feel like it breaks me out of a mold of storytelling where at the end, everything has to be pretty. It feels real. Sometimes, when you try to be sneaky, you get caught… or trip over a dog.
I highly recommend this to everyone, even if you don’t think you’re into D&D. It’s a great time. Every single person that cohosts this show is wonderful and so funny! I’m honestly absolutely obsessed (also their merch is pretty cool). Plus, after listening, maybe we can all figure out how to play Dungeons and Dragons in a discord server.
Quick note: Please make sure you listen to it from oldest to newest! You want to get the full experience. Think of this like reading a book more than listening to a podcast. You don’t want to read out of order so please listen to it in order.
If you want, you can check out their website here. Or, you can search ‘Join the Party’ wherever you listen to podcasts. Happy listening everyone!
