Book Review: Hearts, Strings, and Other Breakable Things

Disclaimer: This is an ARC book. I requested this book on NetGalley and the publishers granted my request and sent me the book. However, all opinions of this book are my own.

I honestly love a slightly romantic YA book. This is such a great and fun summer read and I can’t wait to tell you all about it! I hope you all enjoy my review of Hearts, Strings, and Other Breakable Things.

Summary

Mansfield, Massachusetts, is the last place seventeen-year-old Edie Price wants to spend her final summer before college. It’s the home of wealthy suburban mothers and prima donnas like Edie’s cousins, who are determined to distract her from her mother’s death with cute boys and Cinderella-style makeovers. She’s got her own plans, and they don’t include any prince charming.

But as she dives into schoolwork and getting a scholarship for college, Edie finds herself drawn to two Mansfield boys strumming for her attention: First, there’s Sebastian, Edie’s childhood friend and first love, who’s sweet and smart and . . . already has a girlfriend. Then there’s Henry, the local bad boy and all-around player who’s totally off limits—even if his kisses are chemically addictive.

Both boys are trouble. Edie can’t help herself from being caught between them. Now, she just has to make sure it isn’t her heart that breaks in the process.

My Review

Overall, I really liked this book. It was very well written and so much fun to read. Listen, I will binge rom-coms when I can but I don’t often read them. As you’ve probably seen, I really prefer urban fantasy. But sometimes, I can really enjoy a really good YA book.

This book was written really well. Even for an ARC book, I didn’t notice any typos, any run-on sentences, or anything that pulled me out of the book. It was a super easy read and honestly so much fun. Edie Price is such an interesting character, but one thing I will say is that none of these characters are without fault. I think that’s one of the wonderful things that this author has done with their characters. You don’t have the stereotypical girl with absolutely no faults and the horrible girlfriend of the boy you totally deserve. Everyone has faults and it’s wonderful.

This book is a light, easy read. It’s a great book if you’re looking for a holiday or vacation read. This book is a great read that you can put down when you want to, but it’s still interesting enough to keep you reading when you can. It’s not particularly hard-hitting, instead, it’s incredibly fun. I think that this is a great escape from reality type of book. It’s not going to make you cry, but it’ll probably make you laugh. I truly think the best way to describe this book is just fun.

My only notice is that it does discuss the topic of sex, but it doesn’t describe it in graphic detail. So, if you are buying this book for a child or something, maybe read it first? It’s not graphic by any means, but I thought I would just put it out there. It is a romance after all.

Now, the bad news, this delightful book doesn’t come out until December 17, 2019! If you would like to preorder it, here is the link to Amazon. I will also do a count down when it gets closer, so if you want to keep an eye out for that, follow me on Instagram by clicking here!
